A beautifully crafted natural Planed and Bevelled softwood sleeper, perfectly smooth and beveled to eliminate sharp edges, this is the ultimate railway sleeper to help you create stunning garden features to be proud of.
Our green 1.2m x 96mm x 196mm Planed and Bevelled softwood sleepers, like all our timber, are pressure-treated with Tanalith E (Tanalised), a water-based preservative that is forced deep into the structural cells of the sleeper through hydraulic pressure. This ensures a long lifespan (10-15 years) with added protection against insect and fungal attacks. This process also provides a natural soft green finish that will gradually fade to a lovely silvery grey over time. If you wish to maintain that 'as new' look, we highly recommend applying an annual green timber preservative available on our site.
Our Planed and Bevelled railway sleepers are user-friendly and incredibly versatile. Should you decide to cut any part of the sleeper, it is essential to apply a generous coating of timber preservative to ensure its longevity; this is available from Gardoo.
We recommend Gardoo’s smooth planed and bevelled railway sleepers for use in children’s play areas, sand pits, and seating areas, as they provide added protection.
If you wish to fix your Planed and Bevelled sleepers, we offer two sizes of timber screws: 6.5mm x 150mm and 6.5mm x 250mm, which are very easy to use with the magnetic hex drive bit we provide. These screws are designed for the construction industry and will ensure your sleeper projects are securely fastened.
All our green Planed and Bevelled softwood sleepers provide a straightforward and effective solution for creating various structures in your garden, including structural retaining walls, raised beds for vegetables, and the construction of paths, steps, and the edging of flower beds, patios, and driveways.
Many of our customers utilise the 1.2m x 96mm x 196mm green railway sleepers to craft stunning garden furniture and beautiful BBQ areas, perfect for enjoying warm summer days with friends and family.
We do not recommend using our Planed and Bevelled green sleepers for constructing ornamental ponds, lakes, or watercourses where the timber comes into direct contact with water.
Gardoo’s range of Planed and Bevelled green sleepers is available in 1.2m x 96mm x 196mm and 2.4m x 96mm x 196mm sizes.
All our railway sleepers are a natural product, each uniquely individual. There may be slight variations in colour, knots, splits, and wanes, which are all typical of natural materials. Weight and timber density can also differ, but this is entirely normal and does not affect performance or quality; the 1.2m x 96mm x 196mm sleepers typically weigh between 10 and 15kg.
Gardoo sleepers can be used for a variety of projects, including:
· Fences, retaining walls, boundaries.
· Walkways, bridges, and steps.
· Garden structures, sheds, wood stores.
· Pergolas and arbours.
· Patio and decking areas.
· BBQ areas.
· Lawn, driveway, and path edging.
· Raised beds.
So create, build, and sit back to enjoy the fruits of your labour.

Please note:
*As part of the natural weathering and ageing process, these green sleepers will turn a lovely shade of silver grey. This process will take approximately 3-6 months for sleepers that are used outdoors, with the sun helping to bleach the wood.
This weathering process does not indicate any loss of preservative protection.
However, if you wish to retain the original colour of your sleepers, we recommend that you retreat your sleepers by applying a stain/preservative or varnish before the original colour fades. Continue this retreatment annually to maintain that colour.
The stated dimensions of our sleepers refer to the finished size.
As a natural product, each sleeper is unique. This means that there may be colour variations, splits, knots and wanes.
As a processed wood product, please be aware that sleepers may contain splinters. Care should be taken in handling sleepers and we recommend wearing gloves when handling.
Questions and Answers
Are Gardoo green railway sleepers from Sustainable sources?
Yes,we care about the environment and the illegal timber trade and we are proud to say all our green sleepers are from sustainable sources.
What is the treatment to ensure long life?
Our green sleepers are treated (tantalised) with Tanalith E to provide a long life, on average treated our softwood sleepers using this method last between 10 and 15 years in most situations, oak sleepers have a much longer life of between 25 and 35 years depending on use and situation. No matter which type of treatment is used softwood sleepers are a natural product and will overtime deteriorate, to extend this lifespan you can apply an annual treatment of preservative. But remember you must treat any areas you have cut to ensure long life, these treatments are available from Gardoo.
Will I be able to lift them
The green 1.2m x 96mm x 196mm green weigh between 10kg & 15kg, we always advice that you should always lift sleepers with two people to avoid injury.
Which sleepers should I use?
The choice is totally up to you, softwood sleepers are a fantastic choice for most projects around the garden but our Oak railway sleepers being a hardwood will last much longer than softwood sleeper’s but they are considerably more expensive and much heavier making them much more difficult to handle.
If you are using sleepers in areas such a children’s sandpits or seating areas it is better to use our planned and bevelled softwood sleepers
Are the fixing screws strong?
Yes they are designed for timber structure fixing in the construction industry
Why do they have splits, knots and wanes?
Timber sleepers are a natural product and will always have some type of blemishes, part of the drying process with timber will create splits and twisting but this is part of the natural look when using sleepers.
How are they delivered?
Our sleepers are delivered by various pallet network operators, they are packed on a non-returnable timber pallet, more information is available under the delivery section.
